Estimated Completion Time:<\/strong>\u00a020 Minutes<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\nStep 01<\/h3>\n\n\n\n As we do with all our new projects, we\u2019re going to start by setting up a New Document<\/strong> by heading over to File > New<\/strong> (or by using the Control-N<\/strong> keyboard shortcut), which we will then adjust as follows:<\/p>\n\n\n\nNumber of Artboards:<\/strong> 1<\/li>Width:<\/strong> 32 px<\/li>Height:<\/strong> 32 px<\/li>Units:<\/strong> Pixels<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\nAnd from the Advanced <\/strong>tab:<\/p>\n\n\n\nColor Mode:<\/strong> RGB<\/li>Raster Effects:<\/strong> Screen (72ppi)<\/li>Preview Mode:<\/strong> Default<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\nStep 02<\/h3>\n\n\n\n As soon as we\u2019ve finished setting up our project file, we can start working on the actual icon, and we will do so by creating the colorful background using a 28 x 28 px <\/strong>circle, which we will color using #ffc943<\/strong> and then center align to the underlying Artboard<\/strong> using the Align<\/strong> panel\u2019s Horizontal<\/strong> and Vertical Align Center<\/strong> options.<\/p>\n\n\n\nStep 03<\/h3>\n\n\n\n Add the main shape for the IM symbol using a 16 x 10 px <\/strong>rectangle, which we will color using #ffffff<\/strong> and then center align to the larger background, positioning it at a distance of 7 px <\/strong>from its top anchor point<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\nStep 04<\/h3>\n\n\n\n Adjust the shape that we\u2019ve just created, by adding three new anchor points<\/strong> to its bottom edge using the Add Anchor Point Tool <\/strong>(+<\/strong>), following the reference image<\/strong> as your main guide.<\/p>\n\n\n\nStep 05<\/h3>\n\n\n\n Continue adjusting the shape, by selecting the middle anchor point<\/strong> using the Direct Selection Tool <\/strong>(A<\/strong>), and then pushing it to the bottom by a distance of 4 px <\/strong>using the directional arrow keys<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\nStep 06<\/h3>\n\n\n\n Since we want the resulting shape to feel softer without it snapping off the Pixel Grid<\/strong>, we\u2019re going to coat it using an outline<\/strong>. To do this, first create a copy (Control-C<\/strong>) of it, which we will paste in front (Control-F<\/strong>) and then adjust by flipping its Fill <\/strong>with its Stroke<\/strong> using the Shift-X<\/strong> keyboard shortcut. Once you\u2019re done, set the Stroke<\/strong>\u2019s Weight <\/strong>to 2 px <\/strong>and its Corner<\/strong> to Round Join<\/strong>, making sure to select and group the two shapes together afterwards using the Control-G<\/strong> keyboard shortcut.<\/p>\n\n\n\nStep 07<\/h3>\n\n\n\n Grab the Pen Tool <\/strong>(P<\/strong>), and after setting the Stroke<\/strong>\u2019s Weight<\/strong> to 2 px<\/strong>, quickly draw the two dummy text lines using the reference image<\/strong> as your main guide. Take your time, and once you\u2019re done, make sure you select and group the two together using the Control-G<\/strong> keyboard shortcut, doing the same for the entire IM symbol afterwards.<\/p>\n\n\n\nStep 08<\/h3>\n\n\n\n Finish off the icon and with it the project itself by adding the little notification indicator using a 6 x 6 px <\/strong>circle, which we will color using #ff8d4d<\/strong> and then position onto the IM symbol\u2019s upper-right corner. As always, once you\u2019re done don\u2019t forget to select and group all of the icon\u2019s composing shapes before finally hitting that save button.<\/p>\n\n\n\nDone, you did an awesome job!<\/h3>\n\n\n\n As always, I hope you had fun working on the project, and most importantly managed to learn something new and useful during the process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
